An Interview with the Blogger behind The Witty Gritty Life

Sharing is caring!

Ha! Today’s post is all about, drum roll please…ME. Yup, I was tagged by fellow blogger – Julie Hage – from fillingthejars.com to participate in a blogger interview and I thought it would be a fun way for you to learn a little bit more about me.

So are you ready to delve into the depths of boring little old me? A glass of wine or other beverage of choice might not be a bad idea right now:)

When was the last time you cried?

That’s an easy one! Last Thursday after the dog hacked up his dinner on my freshly cleaned carpet. You can check out the post here to get the entire ugly story, if you’re so inclined.

If you were another person would you be a friend of yourself?

Gosh, I certainly hope so! I am loyal to a fault and I can keep a secret forever, mainly because I forget most stuff within an hour:) And I would consider myself pretty low maintenance as far as friendship is concerned.

Do you use sarcasm a lot?

Moi? Truth be told that is a habit I am trying to get away from, but I can snark it up with the best of them if I have to.

What’s the first thing you notice about people?

Generally, I tend to look at people’s shoes first, because you can tell an awful lot about someone by checking out their foot wear. You can be the most put together, polished person, if your shoes are beat up and sloppy, you’re not fooling me!

Scary movie or happy endings?

Happy endings hands down. I’m not into the whole scary movie thing, I just don’t get the appeal of watching someone getting cut up with a chain saw. Give me the warm and fuzzy stuff all day long! One exception would be “The Handmaid’s Tale”, now that I can binge watch for some reason, go figure.

Favorite smells?

Hmm, that’s a bit of a touchy subject for me. I lost most of my normal sense of smell and taste over two years ago for unknown reasons. Prior to that though, I loved the smell of lilacs and lilies of the valley and the moist forest air while going mushroom hunting in my native Germany.

What’s the furthest You’ve ever been  from home?

Around 8,000 miles, when I moved from Germany to the San Francisco Bay area.

Do you have any special talents?

You bet! I excel at asking the people at Home Depot or Lowe’s the one question they have never been asked before. I have a special talent for finding the most expensive items in any store. I am fantastic at eyeballing stuff and nobody picks wrong lottery numbers better than I do. Well, maybe my hubby, but I am very close second to him.

Where were you born?

In a cute small town in Bavaria.

Church bell tower and castle

This is actually very close to my parents house. Not a bad view, eh?

What are your hobbies?

Doing absolutely nothing while “glamping” with my guys. I like the outdoors, but I gotta have my amenities, friends. Rolling around on the floor with the dog, going on long walks at one of our awesome local nature centers, reading blogs, making all kinds of stuff and watching other people work.

What did you want to be when you grew up?

Earliest memory? Captain Kirk’s wife, then a teacher and then it gets fuzzy for a while until I fell in love with the medical field. I had never thought I would somehow end up a soldier in the US Army or a blogger. Even I couldn’t have dreamed something like that up, yet it happened.

How many countries have you been to?

Let’s see, Germany, Austria, Italy, The Czech Republic, The Netherlands, Belgium, England, Canada and the US, so that makes 9 in my book.

What was your favorite/worst subject in school?

I loathed math and every teacher who ever tried to teach it to me. In my world hell is filled with math teachers. Sorry, that’s just how it is. I loved English, German, History, Geography and PE.

What is your favorite drink?

Alcoholic: You could lure me off the ledge with a good bloody Mary.

Non-Alcoholic: sparkling water mixed 50/50 with mango passion fruit juice.

Who are some of your favorite YouTubers?

Anyone who can help me solve a problem or lull me to sleep. No names really come to mind.

How would you describe your fashion sense?

Classic with boho mixed in. I love nice looking shoes, but at my age they better be comfortable. Other than that I just love things that make me look and feel good, no matter what the current fashion trends are.

Tell us one of your bad habits!

Just one? Getting started on one thing then moving to the next and the next and… squirrel?

That is the good the bad and the ugly about little ol’ me.

    1. Thank you Laura! I had fun answering those questions. That picture was taken about 100 ft from my parents house. I feel very fortunate to have grown up right next to a real castle!
